Fertility is often taken for granted. Most of us grow up expecting
that we will be able to establish a family soon after deciding
to do so. Therefore, when a couple discovers an infertility problem
each partner may feel devastated, a loss of control, cheated,
or even ashamed.
There is a process of grieving that
the couple may need to work through when a fertility problem is
identified. Support groups for couples struggling with infertility
exist and can be important.
One of the best resources available is "RESOLVE." RESOLVE
was established in 1974 and is a national nonprofit organization
offering information, advocacy and support to people experiencing
infertility (helpline telephone is 617-623-0744).
Additionally, finding a caring infertility specialist who will
spend the time and energy to listen to an infertile couple's concerns
is important.
